It's been over a year that you debuted with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and almost two since you shifted to Mumbai from Bangalore. How’s the city treating you?
I'd heard so many stories about the city that had initially made me apprehensive but Mumbai has thankfully been welcoming and kind. It's a city that nurtures growth and I have made it my home now. In fact, I am pretty familiar with the city since I used to visit Mumbai often for my modelling assignments. However, I don’t enjoy partying so I am unfamiliar with that aspect of the city.

It's not Anushka Sharma's beauty that has been getting her attention recently. It's her choice of unique roles and her award winning acting ability that is making tabloids go ga-ga over her. So while the whole of India was celebrating Diwali this year, she was busy acting on the streets of New York for Parmeet Sethi's debut movie produced by Yash Raj Films. The towering beauty is back in Mumbai after a gruelling one month outdoor schedule. But if you thought that all ends here, you've got it wrong.
She will be packing her bags to go to Bangkok on November 5 for yet another outdoor schedule along with Shahid Kapoor, Veer Das and Chang, her co-stars in the film. Anushka's warm and accepting personality shines through when you talk to her, and you feel instantly comfortable. Add to that her silly good one liners and you know you're in company. We had a quick chat with her about her American dream, her grocery shopping in the US, her clubbing days down West, her passion for stand up comedians and also Akshay Kumar's humorous antics.

Anushka Sharma of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi fame can't wait to show off her dance skills in this weekend's episode of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Rajul Hegde caught up with the pretty actress during her rehearsal at Jhalak house to know what she's been up to, and whether she's signed any new films.
How does it feel to be on Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa?
It feels very good. And this is a great platform to launch the Rab Ne DVD. It is a very popular show and a big platform for us.
Do you really need to rehearse for Haule Haule, the song you'll be dancing on, on the show?
If you notice, it's Surendar Suri (Shah Rukh Khan) who dances to Hole hole in the film, not me. I performed on Dance pe. I'm dancing to a remix version of Hole Hole. Hard Kaur has rapped very nicely to it.

A week after release, the collections of Rab ne Bana di Jodi are still going strong. Happy? I couldn’t have been happier. There’s nothing better than your debut movie’s success.
But it has met with mixed reactions from the critics and the audience. It’s natural that if a chunk of the viewers like a film, a chunk will rubbish it too. Plenty of people must have entered the auditorium thinking it will be one of those flashy high-end Yash Raj movies. But it wasn’t. I think it’s slowly growing on everyone.
Are you happy with the reviews you have got? Of course. Even a single line written by the critics is welcome. I took all the negative and positive comments sportingly.
Shah Rukh Khan became the star attraction even though the story was about the two of you. It’s a movie about a couple but in our case, the man takes the story forward and the woman follows him. Rab ne.. was promoted as a Shah Rukh-Aditya Chopra movie.. which it is. And in any case if people like the girl, they can appreciate her presence in the story as well.

Anushka Sharma tells Rajiv Vijayakar that the role she played in 'Rab Ne...' bears a close resemblance to who she is in real life.
She gushes when I ask her if she’s set to grab all the Newbie awards this year. She is incredulous when I tell her that her performance in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi belied a screen debut and seemed to show an actor who was ten films old. “Really?” she asks, wide-eyed. “Thanks so much for saying that!” Welcome, lady, but we mean it too.
She’s wearing the same tracksuit for the media interviews at the Yash Raj Studios that she wore in the film. And she tells you that she’s a lot like her character. But we have a grouse — she refuses to part even with her email, saying “The only way to get in touch with me is through them (YRF).” But her flight has taken off and one day, not far away, she will be a free bird. Meet Anushka Sharma, the uncommon beauty to whom the common man Shah Rukh Khan aka Surinder Sahni lost her heart in Rab Na Bana Di Jodi.
