Yash Raj Films finally put to rest rumours that their next film with Shah Rukh Khan was a remake of their yesteryear hit Daag.

“Neither Yash nor Aditya Chopra believe in remaking films. They’ve never bought anyone else’s scripts or looked at their own previous work for inspiration,” a source from the production house informed us. “Whether the films are received as good or bad, the Chopras want them to be perceived as original.”

The rumours were based on what industry watchers termed an “uncanny resemblance” between the SRK-Anushka Sharma-Katrina Kaif romance and the Rajesh Khanna-Sharmila Tagore-Rakhee pairing in Daag.

Trade sources said it was but natural to conclude that the SRK starrer would be a remake of the classic film.

YRF, however, released a statement which read: “This is a film which has an old soul, but a young heart. A film which is classic in its look, but contemporary in its language.”
