A week after release, the collections of Rab ne Bana di Jodi are still going strong. Happy?
I couldn’t have been happier. There’s nothing better than your debut movie’s success.

But it has met with mixed reactions from the critics and the audience.
It’s natural that if a chunk of the viewers like a film, a chunk will rubbish it too. Plenty of people must have entered the auditorium thinking it will be one of those flashy high-end Yash Raj movies. But it wasn’t. I think it’s slowly growing on everyone.

Are you happy with the reviews you have got?
Of course. Even a single line written by the critics is welcome. I took all the negative and positive comments sportingly.

Shah Rukh Khan became the star attraction even though the story was about the two of you.
It’s a movie about a couple but in our case, the man takes the story forward and the woman follows him. Rab ne.. was promoted as a Shah Rukh-Aditya Chopra movie.. which it is. And in any case if people like the girl, they can appreciate her presence in the story as well.

But weren’t you apprehensive that you were kept under wraps so far.
I think it worked for me. I wasn’t distracted.

Did it ever bother you that Sonam Kapoor was considered for your role?
I read about Sonam doing the role. But that was four months after I had been signed on. And it doesn’t matter which known or unknown name was considered before finalising my name.

How is it possible that a girl can’t identify her husband just because of make-up?
(Smiles) Taani is a girl with a heavy baggage.. she has lost her father and her fiancé. She marries Suri who was just a guest at her wedding and they are very formal with each other. So, when Suri becomes Raj, he’s beyond Taani’s recognition. She could never have imagined her boring husband dancing and prancing around.

Any new offers that have come your way?
Yes, I will be doing two more Yash Raj projects. I’ve been signed on for three movies. But Adi is yet to decide on which projects to put me on now.

Apparently you’ve been offered a saas bahu soap.
(Laughs) No way. I have not been offered any such project and I’m not even interested in them.

Asin is touted to be your toughest competitor this year.
That’s because her debut movie is releasing in the same month as mine did. And people are talking about this because we’re both starting out with stalwarts. I know her role and her movie is different from mine but I can’t help the comparisons.

Models generally are looked upon as non-actresses.. does that stress you?
People have their own logic to say that models can’t act. Maybe one or two models were downers. But that doesn’t mean other models can’t act.

Will you resume modeling now or will it only be acting?
Oh no, no. I’m totally in love with the movies. So, no more modeling for me.

And what about your studies, which you left midway to pursue modeling?
I am doing a correspondence course from IGNOU in sociology and economics.

You were reportedly dating Namit Khanna and then Zoheb Yusuf?
Oh please, don’t get me started on that. I come from an background where boys and girls are given an equal treatment. These boys are my friends. Frankly, I’ve never dated anyone. If I ever have someone in my life, he’d better be like Suri...
